Out of This World
We left Milford Sound early in the morning to be able to reach the other side of the Southern Island before sunset. Nugget Point in the Catlin region was on my list of places to visit and part of my itinerary of my New Zealand trip.
It’s so true when you hear saying that in New Zealand if you think you’re going to reach a place in let’s say 3 hours it might actually take you six!
First of all driving a campervan is not exactly the same as driving a car, especially with New Zealand’s curvy roads, you need to pay extra attention. More wind resistance, less agile on curves, you gotta take it slower. 😉
Beside that there are so many beautiful landscapes to see that we would stop every 30 minutes to take photos or just to hang there for a bit and enjoy the area. Don’t we all love a good drive surrounded by beautiful lands, lakes and mountains?
We arrived to destination in the late afternoon. Nugget Point is a rugged area that features a beautiful coastal landscape home to many species of animals. Like this massive sea lion sleeping on the beach.
Just a few minutes walk from the car park is what it takes to get to the iconic Lighthouse located on a promontory surrounded by a group of small rock formations in the water (the Nuggets), forming a breathtaking scenario.
Totally worth the long drive!
On that day the sky was covered by a thick layer of clouds, giving to the whole scene an even more dramatic feel.
Here’s my shot of the Nugget Point Lighthouse
